Once upon a time... there was a small house in Sulden in Vinschgau, where extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner opened his mini-museum Curiosa in 1993. Two years later, when MMM Juval was opened, the success story of the Messner Mountain Museums began - by the year 2016, 5 more museums were added: Dolomites, Ortles, Firmian, Ripa and Corones.
The heart of the entire museum project, the MMM Firmian, is located at Castle Sigmundskron near Bolzano and introduces you to the history and art of mountaineering. If you want to broaden your fascination with mountaineering with the magic of castles and palaces in South Tyrol, visit the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa at Castle Buneck in the Puster Valley and the Messner Mountain Museum Juval, which is housed in a castle near Naturno. Further west in Vinschgau, or more precisely in Sulden am Ortler, the highest mountain in South Tyrol, you can find the Messner Mountain Museum Ortles, dedicated to the topic "ice". On the other hand, you can look forward to real Dolomite rocks when you visit the Messner Mountain Museum Dolomites on Monte Rite in the province of Belluno, a fortress from the First World War. And, near Bruneck – at the top of the Kronplatz mountain, was built the MMM Corones, designed by Zaha Hadid, the British star architect with Iraqi roots.
